why, hello there, blog followers.
i know i have been a very bad blogger latetly. i'm not going to apologize, as it seems i've done too much apologizing for not posting lately, but i just wanted to let you all know that i am aware of this fact.
i know i'm not as interesting ever since i stopped posting my story on here, but i'll still keep posting my random thoughts on here in case you ever decide to read them.
and now on to the random thoughts. [:
lately i've been thinking a lot about the significance we give to words.
now, i know for a fact that i am not the first one to think about this, nor is it the first time i've thought of this, since i have read the book frindle.
it might just be because i have a bad habit of over-analyzing or because i care what others think about me, but the significance we give to words has always been important to me, even as a child. however, this seems to be more important than ever before.
as a teenager, my whole life is defined by the significance of words. when i say something to a family member, it'll mean one thing. when i say the same thing to one of my friends, it'll mean something completely different.
i find it really interesting how the same words can be used to mean something completely different.
then there's the whole side of how people interpret the things you say.
for example, a song. every single person who hears a song will intepret it differently. when you hear the song, how much of the context you know, what memories it brings up, who you are with, and many other things will make up your interpretation of that song.
to give an example, let's say the song abby never by mike lombardo.
if you have never heard this song, you should go listen to it. [:
the first time i heard this song was when i watched the music video. i was alone in my room and had been listening to music. i didn't read any of the information in the info box.
here are the lyrics so that you guys can determine how insane i am for my interpretation of it:
Abby never flies, Abby never flies
flies on her own
this time they let her go
time they let her go
on her way home
they said "always call when you get there"
and she always called
but they watched her all the time
and Abby's always fine
they'll never know the price they'll have to pay
to know that Abby's ok
Abby's on the ground, Abby's on the ground
ready to go
but Abby doesn't call, Abby doesn't call
to let them know
now she's walking through streets this time alone
and she's looking for peace this time alone
everybody waits, everybody waits, waits for the call
but that phone is never gonna ring,
never gonna ring
ring at all
and she watches them from the rooftops
but they'll never know
that she'll watch them all the time
my initial interpretation of this was that abby, the girl who is being sung about, had an overprotective life. she finally breaks free of it. she's supposed to call her family after her plane lands and go home to them, but she doesn't. she goes wandering the streets on her own. she goes and lives her lives without them, having finally broken free of the things that had been restraining her. a line in this song that is repeated a lot is "they'll never know the price they'll have to pay to know that abby's ok". i interpreted this as abby dying. she had broken free from her family and her family never knew what happened to her. so, a break down of that line and my interpretation in parentheses:
they'll never know (she broke away from them) they price they'll have to pay (dying) to know that abby's ok (to talk to her in heaven/afterlife/the next life/whatever you want to call it)
and then the words:
"and she watches them from the rooftops
but they'll never know
that she'll watch them all the time"
followed the interpretation that she had died. she, as an angel (or whatever you believe happens to us when we die) was watching over them, but they have no way of knowing.
then i read what the artist was going for when he wrote the song. and talked to some of my friends, who had interpreted it pretty much the way it was meant to be interpreted. i would link to where the artist talks about it, but i cannot remember where i read it. however, it was basically that abby had overprotective parents. she had to fly home from college and got fed up. she broke her phone and walked home. then she watched her family from their skylights as they all gathered around the phone waiting for her call.
now, i'm not sure what my interpretation says about me, but i find it interesting that my brain would automatically assume that.
what about you? have you ever had any moments where you interpret something completely differently than everyone else?
also, on a completely unrelated note, i think i'm going to start switching up my closing thing. [: i'm considering using something that's made me happy recently.
peace,love,andfruitgushers.
