Life As We Knew It

I want you all to remember that my goal in these reviews is for you to go and read the book yourself, not to give all the information about the book.

This book is scary.
No, not in the whole OMG-THERE'S-A-CREEPER-IN-MY-CLOSET-WHO'S-GOING-TO-KILL-ME-AHHHHHH kinda way.

More in the hey-this-is-kinda-maybe-sorta-plausible kinda way.

It really makes you think.

The book is all about this girl named Miranda (what is it with me and M names? The last book's main character was Mia.) and her family. The book is written in entries from her diary.

It starts out with just regular stuff. No biggie. Then we find out an asteroid is gonna hit the moon. When it does, the moon is knocked off of it's orbit and everything goes weird. Tsunamis, earthquakes (apparently a lot in my state...), droughts, volcanoes, you name it, it happens.

The whole book follows her family for almost a year.

We are there when they are happy and when they are hopeless.

Throughout the book, the confines of her world keep growing smaller, from the world, to her country, to her town, to her house, to certain rooms inside her house. Imagine going from feeling like you can do anything to being stuck inside one room of your house with your family all day.

Yeah.

The only thing that frustrated me is that in the end there is hope, but not enough closure. grr. But I'll save that rant for when you all have read it and can carry on a conversation with me about the book.

If you are really scared about the end of the world, don't read this. Wait. Do read it. Either way. It could freak you out or make you see that all is possible.

Some of the characters in this book that stuck out to me are:
Miranda: She is an average teen going through way too much.
Matt: her older brother. sounds really cute. Trys to take care of everyone. If I had to choose one character to fall for in this book it would be him.
Megan: a pyscho religious freak. *SPOILER ALERT* she starves herself to please god.
Jonny: Seems like a really sweet little kid that was forced to grow up too quickly.
the mom: She is really momish. Like she worries so much. It's sweet, but I can see how it would be a little overwhelming for the kids. She also hates the president.
Mrs. Nesbitt: I love her. She's so sweet and sassy! For an old lady at least.
Dan: I really wish we heard more about him.

There are more, but those are the ones that stick out in my head.

This is a good book to not read right before bed, since it is a little bit scary. Which is exactly why I decided to not go to sleep yet and blog about it instead. [:

peace, love, and gummybears.
