This is the first book I'm gonna review. [: Enjoy!
I will do my best to tell you just enough, but not too much.
This book made cry at least three times throughout the book.
The book revolves around a girl named Mia and her struggle to decide whether to live or let herself die after a car crash. Her body is in horrible condition and she is in a coma. While in this coma her spirit walks around and attempts to decide. At least half the book is flashbacks, but in a good way.
It starts out with a family talking on a snow day. They plan out their day and head out in their car. They take turns listening to music. Finally, the main character gets her choice of music, classical, and relaxes in the back seat. The nthey are in a car crash. She gets up and finds her dad first, dead. Then her mom, dead. She panics and tries to find her little brother. Instead she finds herself. She follows her body through the hospital, attempting to find out why she is in the ghost-like form.
She eventually realizes that she has to decide whether to live or die. All throughout the book are memories of her life. We learn that she is a cello player in a punk family. We learn of her friends and punk boyfriend. We find out about her ambition to go to Juilliard, and her struggles with her boyfriend about it because of not wanting to be seperated.
The book follows her throughout the time that she is trying to decide what to do and seeing her family that came to the hospital because of her.
She has to endure watching her best friend, her boyfriend, her grandparents, everyone come to visit her battered, yet still alive body.
In the end, she finally decides between life without her immediate family and death.
This book is haunting.
I love it.
I might read it...sounds a little frightening though--whateves. I like frightening, depressing books.
